I was told to speak to a child. Well kind of to advise this child of matters concerning his/her future. Frankly, I don't have anything concrete to start my conversation. I am not even trained in this manner or so. Therefore in such situation, I utter a silent prayer to God for wisdom and sensitivity and of course a good listening ear and heart.
Like Nehemiah in Nehemiah 2:4. He said a little prayer to God while trying to tell King Artaxerxes; boldly of his utmost request. Nehemiah on knowing his people were in great distress and the walls Jerusalem was broken down (as walls signify defense for a city), he was heart-broken. He cast all his worries unto God as he knew that the one that he prayed to is a "great and awesome God, one who preserves the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments" (Nehemiah 1:5). Yes, God is a loving God but at the same time He also punishes those who are disobedient to His Word. If you read Eraz, Israelites were disobedient that why they were sent to the exile in Babylon before returning home.
So don't take God's love for granted. Do keep in mind of God's commandments and keep them close to your heart. Worship Him when you are fortunate to have the chance and Pray to him earnestly for He loves to hear from you. Hence, you as a child of God would then grow strong in the Lord.
